There are plenty of places to visit all over the United States, so why should anyone visit Charleston, South Carolina? Well, here’s a little history to set the tone. Charleston is the oldest city in the state of South Carolina being founded in 1670 and was originally named Charles Town. By 1690, Charles Town had become the fifth largest city in North America. The name Charleston wasn’t adopted until 1783. With Charleston being now 345 years old...you can just imagine the amount of history that can be found here!

There’s something for everyone in Charleston when visiting. If you love history, then taking a walking tour in the Downtown area will surely captivate you as you pass by homes that are hundreds of years old, still standing after floods and some even after the great earthquake of 1886! If you have a chance to tour any of the homes, I totally recommend doing that! There’s just nothing like taking it all in as you stroll around a home lived in by generations of families during times of war, the Great Depression, and times of economic thriving as well. Each home has a story and so do the people that once lived there! Don’t miss out on this part of Charleston when visiting.

Walking tours aren’t the only way to see the beauty of this great city! Harbor cruises and horse and buggy tours are excellent ways to experience Charleston in just a couple of hours. If you have a little more time, then you must visit one of the magnificent plantations such as Boone Hall Plantation, Middleton Plantation, or perhaps Magnolia Gardens! Why? They are set along the waters of Charleston and are absolutely breathtaking to behold, not to mention the rich history. There are photo opportunities absolutely everywhere you look!

If you’re more of a laid back vacationer, then the beach might be just the thing for you! Beaches such as Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, Kiawah Island, and Folly Beach are the perfect way to spend time relaxing in the sand, forgetting all the cares of life, and breathing in the fresh salty air!

After a long day at the beach, then it’s time to grab dinner! If you’re a Foodie, then Charleston is the perfect place for you! It is well known for exquisite cuisine prepared by top chefs who enjoy using local ingredients! When there’s lots of competition to be the best, the best is what you’re going to get! Seafood is a must when in Charleston. Many of the restaurants buy their fish from fishermen that have just come in with the day’s fresh catch! There’s no need to eat somewhere where the fish has been frozen when in Charleston! Make sure you find one of the local favs.
